May 2007Dear Friends of the Dole,The Dole Derby at Legacy Downs was one of those events that caused me to pause. Several times in the evening I found myself looking around and feeling nothing but gratitude.
Gratitude for you, for us, for simply... ..everything. I was truly over-whelmed with your generosity. So many people participated in making this event so fun, so meaningful, so alive. You all worked so hard, gave so much of yourselves. Giving back is hard, meaningful work. Together we raised over $130,000 for the Foundation. For the Arts. For Kids so they can express their creative spirit and have a meaningful place to come learn. We raised money to sustain open space and beautify this park. We raised money to bring a children's art school to the campus and allow them the flexibility to create space that will be purposeful and productive. We raised money to preserve the historic Dole Mansion. We raised money to say simply, ART MATTERS, COMMUNITY MATTERS.
Bob Blaziers "sing off" summed up the evening for me... people helping each other from a generously spirited place.
This is community,
this is our mission. I remain in awe...
